Bellerive Bluff Home Renovation
The clients wished to preserve the character and ambience of this weatherboard classic from the 1960’s whilst taking advantage of a prime location to create a contemporary and functional family home. Open plan living areas and the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces was another priority.
An addition to the rear of the house is highlighted by a striking cantilever roof which with generous glazing provides an avenue for natural light into the living areas. The open plan kitchen and living areas are a focus for family activities and entertaining. The impressive state of the art kitchen merges into the dining area. The kitchen is perfect for entertaining with expansive space each side of the island bench. The bench has a unique cantilevered solid oak dining table extending into the living area. It is supported by a large I beam encased through the whole island bench. Concealed posts secure this to concrete piers.
Large sliding glass doors between the adjoining living area and the sweeping deck create flexibility. The deck features an outdoor kitchen and is flanked by a sunken swim spa surrounded by a glass balustrade. A servery window to the kitchen strengthens the link. A separate dedicated sound proof media room with surround sound further enhances the functionality of the extension.
To achieve the renovation the old kitchen and bathroom walls at the rear of the house were removed to open the living areas. The master bedroom at the front expanded into another bedroom to create a walk through robe and an ensuite bathroom. As under the innovative roof use of glass ensures natural light reaches into these spaces. All internal walls were stripped of plaster, insulated and re-plastered. The original timber windows were restored and re-glazed with tinted Low-e glass. The external 1960’s weatherboards were stripped back to raw timber and repainted.
Externally the addition with its bold new roof dominates the rear of the house but the basic character of the home has been preserved. From the streets beside the corner block the perception one has of the home is of a period weatherboard house which has been transformed into an impressive and substantial contemporary family home.
Testimonial
We recently completed a renovation and extension of a 1950s house in Bellerive with 2B building. We absolutely stoked with the outcome.
Choosing a builder was an easy decision once we sat down with Jesse. We felt that he was professional, informative and knowledgeable, this remained the same throughout the 6 month build.
From the moment the build started until completion Jesse kept us up to date with everything. His organisational and co-ordination skills were exceptional meaning little if no delays. We felt that Jesse and his team were fully invested in the project and treated it as if it were their own.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Jesse and the 2B building team and look forward to one day working with them again.
