Fern Tree House
A steep and challenging block at Fern Tree on the slopes of Mount Wellington provided challenges for both architect and builders. The brief was to create a house with the character of an Alpine lodge within a finite project budget. Extensive discussions involving the architect, owners and builder paid dividends. The result is a stunning home.
The Alpine feel is successfully created by several features. Gable ceilings are lined with Tasmanian Oak flowing down the walls and matching the floorboards. Windows frame the mountain views capturing the winter sun which overlooks the treetops and ridgelines. Heating is provided by a beautiful European woodfire which is point of focus in all living areas.
Stunning custom kitchen and bathrooms complement design features including study nooks creating a contemporary, appealing and functional home for a young family.
Externally, on the northern side compliance with BAL 40 as part of the Bushfire Management Plan was achieved by the use of fibre cement and galvanised long span roofing iron on the roof and the parallel walls. Compliance with BAL 29 on the south facing aspect enabled the use of Spotted Gum as a feature for the entry. This in time will fade to grey and balance out the iron.

We hope to one day add another room to our initial build and we definitely intend to engage Jesse and the 2B Building team in any further construction.
