This architect designed accommodation unit is the first of three being built by the owner. The setting is the slopes of Mount Wellington with the Organ Pipes and rain forest dominating the views.
The townhouse is only 85m2 but innovative design establishes impressions of snug comfort with an Alpine character. Downstairs features an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge with a concealed laundry. A Tas Oak staircase leads upstairs to a bathroom with bath, walk in shower and tree top views. The master bedroom with polished floors has views to the mountain pinnacle. It is heated by the flue of the wood fire downstairs. The north facing second bedroom with forest views catches the low winter sun.
Externally, the south facing clip lock roof folds down the wall directing water into a concrete gutter. The front of the unit is clad in shiplap spotted gum housing a gable window framing the views of the mountain and forest from the master bedroom.
The location makes the Bushfire Management Plan a prime consideration in the design process. Compliance was achieved with BAL 29. The climate was also a major factor. An Energy Rating of 8.3 was achieved.
