Tiger Head House #2
The clients wished to preserve the character and ambience of this fibro waterfront classic shack from the 1950s whilst taking advantage of a prime location to create a contemporary and functional home. Other priorities were open plan living areas, the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces and the wish to provide space and privacy for visits by the next generation of a growing family.
Facing northwest on Tiger Head the new house takes full advantage of the views across the Frederick Henry Bay onto Mount Wellington and over seaside Lewisham. All day sun is absorbed on the Spotted Gum deck and outdoor kitchen through expansive glass in the kitchen and living areas. Shade is created and controlled by a louvre roof over the deck.
The master bedroom takes full advantage of water views. The walk-through robe leads to an ensuite where Gleam apple green tiles and Tiger Bronze fixtures are a feature.
Adjoining the kitchen is the laundry/mud room that also serves as the garage entry. In here there is a pantry and second refrigerator as the kitchen refrigerator is a narrow single door integrated into the joinery.
Triple stacker zero clearance doors from the other side of the kitchen link to a timber lined study nook. With a daybed and desk on the window looking south across the bay.
A Tas Oak staircase leads down a level to two more bedrooms, a lounge, kitchenette, bathroom and laundry creating flexible and self-contained spaces when extended family come to visit. Outside the lower lounge is an exposed aggregate deck with an outdoor shower mounted on a stone wall. This feature wall binds both levels of the home. It rises through the deck to become the centrepiece of the upstairs lounge which also boasts an open fireplace and entertainment unit that is concealed when not in use within the stonework.
Double glazed windows and pelmets for electric blinds powder coated in Black Textura create a striking enhancement blending seamlessly into the appearance of the home. Eave gutters maintain these clean lines.
From the exterior a bridge entry walkway allows a smooth transition from the driveway to a Spotted Gum entry pivot door removing the need for steps. Native plants feature in the rapidly establishing landscaping designed to draw visitors towards the entrance.
